VIN : BARCO DEL CORNETA VERDEJO 2015 |
The handcrafted Verdejo 2015 Barco del Corneta does not carry the Rueda appellation of origin. despite the vines being inside the region and the wine showing more typicity and quality than most of the ones that do carry it. But anyway, to produce this, they fermented the grapes from young organically-farmed vines in the village of La Seca in used 300-liter oak barrels with indigenous yeasts. The wine was kept in barrel with the lees but without bâttonage for some nine months before being bottled. It’s still a little shy and takes some time to open up in the glass. It’s very clean with faint aromas of freshly cut herb and a touch of straw, traces of orange peel and a touch of fennel, with the oak perfectly integrated with the fruit. The palate is very tasty with some chalky sapid sensation, incredibly fresh for such a warm vintage. The grapes were harvested over two ‘tries’, one for freshness and a later one for complexity. This is one of the best Verdejos in the market. 14,884 bottles produced. It was bottled in September 2016. Robert Parker. The Wine Advocate. 92+/100.
