The 2011 Spätburgunder Alte Reben Jaspis is a barrel selection of the Jaspis Pinot Noir that goes into the market only four years after the harvest. Only 1,000 bottles had been filled but a few of them made their way into the United States. The wine shows a dark ruby color and opens with a noble, deep and smoky bouquet of ripe dark cherries and berries. Full-bodied, intense and very juicy, this silky textured 2011 displays super ripe fruit flavors combined with vitality, fine tannins and a long, tension-filled finish. The tannins are still very firm and the wine would surely benefit from being decanted. However, mushroom and rose petal flavors are first signs of maturity. Robert Parker. The Wine Advocate. 92/100.
