ABBRUZZO ON THE MOVE. SIGNIFICANT CHANGES IN 4 OF THE REGION’S DOCs

The main change affecting the appellations: s Abruzzo DOC, Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC, Cerasuolo d’Abrozzu DOC and Trebbiano d’Abruzzo DOC is as follows:

FOR THE 4 DOCs

Four provincial sub-zones (Terre di Chieti, Terre Aquilane or Terre de L’Aquila, Colline Pescaresi, Colline Teramane) have been created for wines followed by the denomination  « Superiore »  and « Riserva »  which can only be produced in the sub-zones. The mention Riserva does not exist in the DOC Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo.

In addition to the four sub-areas (Terre di Chieti, Terre Aquilane or Terre de L’Aquila, Colline Pescaresi, Colline Teramane).

For the sub-area Terre di Chieti,  four additional smaller geographical units have been created : Colline Teatine or Teatino ; Hill Frentane or Frentania or Frentano; Hill of the Sangro; Hill of Vastese or Hystonium.

This change streamlines the DOCs but significantly increases the number of wines produced in each DOC.

A significant number of other modifications, in particular for the DOC Abruzzo, have also been made.
